Heritage

The Community of Mafeking and the Board of Directors welcome visitors to our Heritage Site.  In 2006 a Cairn with a Plaque was constructed and the building was formally opened on Aug, 19th with Rev Omar Lamb unveiling the cairn.  This building was built in 1940 with the willing help of the men folk who cut and hauled the logs during the winter, with construction in the spring.  The first service was held in May, with Miss Edwards in charge as our Bishop’s Messenger.  In 2007 we were able to complete the window restoration to the building with the help of grant programs from Culture Heritage & Tourism Historic Resources and the Thomas Sill Foundation, Prairie Churches Project.  Our gratitude goes out to both organizations. Without them, this work could not be accomplished. 

Our work will continue in 2008 as we continue to provide future generations with a place to view the lives of parents, grandparents and great grandparents. It is our intent to begin the organization of the contents we have collected.

The site is easily accessible with a left turn off Hwy 10 at the south end of town directly opposite the Natural Resources’ buildings. We look forward to visitors this summer.
